NASCAR driver in NC faces new charges
A NASCAR driver has turned himself in to authorities in Shelby after warrants were issued for him and a business partner. Rowan County sheriff's deputies say warrants were issued for Mike Harmon and a business partner on Monday afternoon. The men are charged with breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering.

UNC AD Cunningham mulling upgrades to Smith Center, Fetzer
North Carolina won NCAA championships in women's lacrosse and women's soccer this season, and earned recognition as the nation's best women's athletic program. Now athletic director Bubba Cunningham is looking ahead to facility upgrades that could include changes to the home of the Tar Heels' men's basketball team.

NC State ready for shot at rival UNC in Omaha

Leffler dies after accident in dirt car event
NASCAR driver Jason Leffler died after an accident Wednesday night in a heat race at a dirt car event at Bridgeport Speedway. The 37-year-old, a two-time winner on the NASCAR Nationwide Series, was pronounced dead shortly after 9 p.m., New Jersey State Police said.

Charlotte 49ers name stadium after Panthers' Richardson
The Charlotte 49ers have announced their new 15,300-seat football facility will be named Jerry Richardson Stadium following a $10 million donation from the Carolina Panthers owner. Construction on the stadium was completed last October.

Tar Heels edge Gamecocks 5-4 to reach Omaha
The Tar Heels punched their ticket to the College World Series in Omaha. The Heels defeated the University of South Carolina 5-4, making it the tenth time they will be in the tournament. The third game was forced after the Gamecocks shut them out in Game Two.
