Panthers middle linebacker Luke Kuechly says he broke into a big smile when Carolina selected Utah defensive tackle Star Lotulelei with the 14th overall pick in last month's NFL draft. Kuechly knew right then his job just got a lot easier.

The agent for first-round draft pick Star Lotulelei says his client has signed a four-year contract with the Carolina Panthers. Financial terms were not released but the deal includes a team option for a fifth season.

Thomas Keiser made the Panthers roster as an undrafted rookie in 2011 out of Stanford and contributed right away with 13 tackles and four sacks in eight games. However, shoulder problems limited him to four games last season. Zach Williams was Carolina's sixth round draft pick in 2011 but only played in one game in two seasons.
