A change of command ceremony, aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Wednesday, brought new leadership to the Second Marine Aircraft Wing. Hundreds came out to witness the transferring of colors from Major General Glenn Walters to Brigadier General Robert Hedelund. Walters has been appointed to a position at the Marine Corps national headquarters.

Despite the rain, All American Week on Fort Bragg began on Monday. Around 19,000 soldiers are participating in this year's events. The traditions have been taking place for over 25 years on-base, but for the first time in several years, the entire 82nd Airborne Division was there to participate.

On Tuesday, a Camp Lejeune Marine, Staff Sgt. Daniel Ridgeway was honored with the military's third-highest combat award: the Silver Star Medal. Staff Sgt. Ridgeway is only the third Marine in the EOD community to be awarded the Silver Star Medal.

It is an emotional day for many of Wayne County's Veterans. A traveling half- scale replica of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. called "The Wall that Heals," had its opening day ceremony Thursday. Officials say there are nearly 60,000 names on the wall, and many veterans says it brings back memories of the friends they've lost.

Runners and walkers took to the track at Hedrick Stadium on Fort Bragg Wednesday evening to support the victims of the Boston Marathon explosions Monday at the finish line. The event was organized by Team Red, White, and Blue Fort Bragg. Participants ran or walked 26.2 minutes for the marathon distance of 26.2 miles.

More than a thousand Camp Lejeune Marines attended the National Job Fair and Education Expo on base Wednesday, hoping to land a job. Nationwide veterans are looking at a 9 percent unemployment rate, and that number is even higher in North Carolina -- at 12 percent.

North Carolina is getting closer to welcoming another resting place for its military heroes. The Division of Veterans Affairs has applied for a federal grant to open a Veterans cemetery in Goldsboro. The 80-acre plot of land is located about a mile from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, close to where planes take off and land.
