Bear struck and killed on I-40 near Winston-Salem
Authorities say a black bear has been struck and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 40 west of Winston-Salem. Police said the bear was found around 6 a.m. Saturday near exit 188 in Clemmons. The vehicle that struck the animal did not stop. Wildlife officials took the bear's body.

Volunteer coach in Elkin discovered as California sex offender
Investigators say a sex offender from California has been using a fake name to coach kids in Elkin. Elkin police say Nigel Garcia was a volunteer coach with the Recreation and Parks department. Parents who frequent the park say it is frightening to think that Garcia was around children.

Medical examiner says victim had little chance of surviving in Royster murder trial
According to the testimony of a medical examiner on Friday, Amias Robinson, 2, had little chance of surviving when he was shot on August 12, 2010. Medical examiner Dr. James Sullivan testified that Robinson's cause of death was a gun shot wound to the neck. Sullivan also talked about where the boy was grazed on his left shoulder.

Man with medical condition locks down Charlotte school
Tense moments at a Charlotte-Mecklenburg school Friday morning. Statesville Road Elementary was placed on lock down for about 20 minutes after police say a man wrecked his car near the parking lot and ran into the school. An employee spotted the man and called 911. Officers apprehended him in the cafeteria minutes later.

City officials say nearly 600 homes in Greensboro don't meet housing code standards. More than 60 of them are in the Glenwood neighborhood around Lee Street and Freeman Mill Road. Hough HS student hospitalized with life-threatening injures after hit by truck
CMS officials say the Hough High School sophomore was hit by one of the truck's mirrors around 7:15 a.m. as the teen was walking near the intersection of Robert Walker Drive and Davidson-Concord Road. Medic says the victim was airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
