TAMPA – At just 27 years old, state Rep. Justin Burr was a part of history for North Carolina, proclaiming during roll call at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday night that the state would turn from Carolina blue to Wolfpack red in November.

"It is a huge honor," the two-time state representative said about joining NCGOP Vice Chairman Wayne King in pledging North Carolina's 55 Republican delegates.

"We cast seven votes for [Ron] Paul and we proudly cast 48 votes for the next president of the united states, Mitt Romney," Burr said.

In the alphabetical roll call, North Carolina's pledged delegates came just minutes after New Jersey's delegates put Romney over the top to officially become the Republican presidential nominee. The announcement set off a huge ovation inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

"I think this is gearing up for what's going to be a great final two months of the campaign," said Burr.

With both King and Burr younger than 35, they said  participating in North Carolina's roll call was symbolic.

"Myself and Justin are both young Republicans and I think it sends a strong message all across America to make sure that we unite our party more than ever," King said.

It's that youthful enthusiasm that will likely determine whether North Carolina goes Carolina blue or Wolfpack red.
