ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. -- Piles of destroyed furniture lay outside several Roanoke Rapids homes as residents continue to clean up after Saturday's flood. City representatives say 75 buildings were damaged within city limits as rain drenched the area, pouring down almost a foot of water.
The flood also collapsed a road but luckily no one was injured.
“It's scary to think it could just wipe out. I mean people lost houses and everything that's just devastating,” said resident Susan Hasty.
State damage assessment teams met with city officials Monday to determine if the area is eligible for state and federal assistance.
