WILMINGTON – Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant is touring the North Carolina Coast this week rallying support for presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

"We are now positioned to win North Carolina. The Republicans can do this. If Mitt Romney takes this state, we can win Virginia, we can win Florida and we are in the White House. That's why North Carolina is so important now," Bryant said.

The New Hanover County GOP Office was filled with Romney supporters who said they were thrilled with the support of Bryant.

"The fact that a major player in the whole game of the United States, like the governor, would come and talk to us is very rewarding," volunteer Nick Benson said.

Meanwhile, volunteers on the Democratic side are working hard to keep President Obama on top in North Carolina.

"We go out and make sure people are registered to vote. that means knocking on a lot of doors and talking to a lot of people, which is awesome," said volunteer Nikki Culbreth.

Culbreth says the community has been positive in their feedback, but hopes the energy will build when Vice President Joe Biden makes a stop in North Carolina next week.

"I think it will energize people even more so. I think people are already excited about President Obama, the campaign in general, but yeah, I think people will be even more excited after Joe Biden comes," she said.

With Romney scheduled to make stops across the state on Sunday, it looks like voters on both sides of the fence have plenty to look forward to in the coming days.

Bryant had recently expressed disappointment with Gov. Bev Perdue after she said the passage of the Marriage Amendment made North Carolina look like Mississippi. On Wednesday, Bryant said she was a "nice lady that made a bad comment."
