RALEIGH – The Army veteran with ties to Fort Bragg who shot and killed six people Sunday in a Sikh temple in Wisconsin had a normal childhood, according to his stepmother.

Laurie Page says her stepson, Wade, who was shot to death by police outside the temple, was “a beautiful child.”

“I would not have known this was Wade,” she said. “What has changed him, I have no idea and obviously we're never going to know.

“I'm totally devastated. His father is devastated. We're pretty much in shock.”

Laurie Page says they lost contact more than a decade ago, around the time she divorced his father.

Page's ties to North Carolina were strong. He owned a home in Cumberland County and was a member of a white supremacist rock band based in Nashville, N.C.
