CONCORD — At least two airports in the Charlotte region will be considered overflow airports during the Democratic National Convention.

Both Concord Regional Airport and Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport are expected to help ease aircraft congestion at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Concord Regional Airport Operations Supervisor Glen Hatley said Charlotte-Douglas International Airport does not have the capacity to handle all of the planes that are coming to the DNC.

“We are not looking at 747's. It won't be any large commercial traffic like that it will be some of the smaller, privately owned, charter outfits that own aircrafts like that,” said Hatley.

Hatley said a lot of the delegates will be taking commercial flights into Charlotte anyways. Some additional security is expected at both regional airports.

Monroe Police Chief Debra Duncan said her officers will be assisting TSA during the event.
