RALEIGH (AP) -- The Carolina Hurricanes and free-agent defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani have agreed to a one-year deal.

The team on Wednesday announced the two-way contract that will pay Gragnani $800,000 on the NHL level or $105,000 in the minor leagues.

Vice president of hockey operations Ron Francis says Gragnani will push for a spot when training camp begins in the fall.

The 25-year-old Gragnani split last season between Buffalo and Vancouver and had two goals and 13 assists in 58 games last season.

He spent most of his four NHL seasons with the Sabres before they traded him at the deadline to the Canucks.
