CHARLOTTE -- Refugees from all over the world celebrated World Refugee Day on Wednesday in uptown Charlotte. This was a way for resettled refugees to say "thank you" for all of the support they have received since arriving in the United States.

Dancers performed traditional folk dances from Russia, Vietnam, Sudan and Somalia.

"Every hour, even today, eight families are having to leave their homes," said Marlene Myers, North Carolina's refugee coordinator. "Just flee, just get out, get anything. So they come with no possessions, with nothing."

The United Nations estimates there are 50 million refugees around the world.
