RALEIGH -- Just days before an appeals court hears a case regarding pre-K education, state lawmakers are working on changing the restrictions that prompted a lawsuit.

Last year the legislature limited the number of pre-K spots for at-risk children and required parents to pay up to 10 percent of their income. A judge ruled those changes violated the state's duty to provide all children sound, basic education.

Now Senate leader Phil Berger says they're working on removing those restrictions. The appeal is set to be heard in court next week.
