MLB.com At Bat 11
As baseball season officially gets underway there are seemingly as many baseball related mobile apps out there as there are bad jokes about how bad the Mets will be this year -- lots. But for the hardcore fan, there will be few that will measure up to Major League Baseball's official At Bat 11 app. For starters, thanks to a sponsorship from Volvo, you'll be able to watch every out of market game live during the month of April for free: a privilege otherwise reserved for those who've shelled out $120 for a yearly MLB.tv membership. From there, the features vary depending on which device you use it on but among the most exciting: live Look-ins for getting quick highlights from around the league, archived games watchable on demand, home and away radio broadcasts, and of course enough stats to bury yourself in until the 2020 baseball season. MLB's At Bat 11 app costs $14.99 for the season and is for all the i-devices, Androids, and Blackberries for $14.99.
Serve
And speaking of making payments, American Express is giving PayPal some competition in allowing you to pay for things or transfer money to friends using your mobile device. Called Serve, it kinda works like PayPal, you set up a Serve account which can be linked to your bank account and credit cards and then you can send anyone money by simply wiring it so to speak to their email account. You can also put people like your kids, spouse, whoever on your Serve account as subaccount holders and then instantly transfer money into their accounts. Offline, you get a pre-paid, refillable Serve card which is designed to work anywhere American Express is accepted. Serve is a free download and works with i-devices and Androids.
