GREENSBORO—The state Democratic party is looking for a fresh start following a scandal at its Raleigh headquarters.

The party is choosing a new leader Saturday. The executive committee of the state Democratic party is meeting at the Koury Convention Center Sheraton Hotel in Greensboro. A new leader is expected to emerge from the meeting.

Current chairman David Parker recently announced plans to step down following the disclosure of sexual harassment allegations at party headquarters involving two former employees; including the former executive director.

A settlement was reached between the party and the staffer who filed the complaint. Thursday, a Winston-Salem activist, Frank Eaton, added his name to the list of candidates running to replace Parker as North Carolina Democratic chair.

Another Triad native, Sen. Don Vaughn of Greensboro and Raleigh City Councilwoman Mary-Ann Baldwin have also come out to say they would like a shot at leading the party.
