GOLDSBORO — The Goldsboro Police Department has a new chief.

Jeffery Stewart, a 25-year veteran who was named interim chief 13 months ago when the former chief retired, was appointed as permanent chief last week. Stewart said he hopes to modernize the department and that officer will soon carry Tazers.

The department is one of the last in the state that does not use them
