The trees are blooming. The birds are singing. Ah yes, spring is officially here. Time to open those windows and let the fresh air in. That means it's also time to do some spring cleaning. We checked in with the Ecomaids to get some tips on making your home as fresh on the inside as it is feeling outside.
Amanda Haggart, of Ecomaids said, “In the spring when the nice weather really does come along it is really important to open all the windows, let the air come through. It's important to clean all of the dust and allergens that have accumulated throughout the winter months. So we recommend at least for one spring cleaning that you get a nice thorough cleaning of the whole home.
Cleaning isn't everybody's favorite activity, but it is something that should be done regularly to help keep the home happy and healthy. So, where should you start?
“Light switches, window sills, door frames, light fixtures, even fixtures on cabinets. These are items that general homeowners touch every day but they seem to get missed when you clean the house,” said Haggart.
Of course you want to regularly clean your bathrooms and kitchens because those are the places that accumulate the most bacteria. However, there are some places you may be neglecting.
“Most people don't clean out closets, they really don't clean out inside of cabinets, and they rarely go inside of appliances. We see that when most homeowners do the cleaning themselves it is more of a spot clean and a surface clean, so you're not reaching the areas that are most heavily used and most heavily soiled and you're really allowing those allergens, bacteria and other harmful substances to remain in your home and continue to fester,” said Haggart.
Spring cleaning is important for everyone but if you're planning on putting your home on the market this spring, it might be even more important for you.
“What people see when they come into the home is really how they are going to gage whether or not they can see themselves living there. So we really recommend that they do a top to bottom cleaning, be it themselves or with a professional cleaning company, to really give it the professional shine you need to sell your home,” said Haggart.
If you choose to get your home professionally cleaned, your price will vary depending on how much house needs to be cleaned and how much work needs to go into it.
