Gay marriage conversation spikes on Twitter
The big talker this week around the country was the issue of gay marriage. Just one day after North Carolina voted to pass a constitutional amendment defining marriage solely as a union between a man and a woman, President Barack Obama said in an interview he believes same sex couples should be able to get married.
So, what did the American public do? They took to social media to have their voice heard.
At 3:22 pm Wednesday, 20 minutes after ABC News aired their special report, the same-sex marriage conversation spiked to 7,347 tweets per minute. @BarackObama's tweet affirming his position was retweeted more than 56,000 times in a matter of hours.
Presumptive GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney hit the airwaves, not social media, to respond, standing by his position opposing civil unions and gay marriage.
