Predicted dusting turns into about 2 inches of snow
What was supposed to be a dusting turned into a surprise snowfall across central North Carolina, dumping an inch or more in some areas, just a week after much of the state was enjoying spring-like weather.
The snow forced early dismissal from school systems and caused traffic problems.
Up to two inches of snow fell on counties east and northeast of Raleigh. The National Weather Service says areas along the Interstate 95 corridor can expect an inch of snow.

The weather service says an upper level disturbance proved to be a little stronger than expected. Instead of the storm losing its moisture as it crossed the mountains, it maintained the moisture into the piedmont.
The state Highway Patrol says it received more than 200 reports of accidents since midnight, mostly in Wake and Granville counties. The patrol normally receives about 40 calls a day.
