Cold weather boosts some businesses

The warm weather is officially gone and the frigid temperatures are settling in. While the thought makes many of us shudder, it has some businesses seeing dollar signs.
For some stores, the cold weather is heating up business.
Just two weeks ago, when everyone was enjoying unseasonably warm weather, business at Slope and Sail Tours was slow.
“The first two weeks of January, were, well, we'll just call them soft,” Stephen Walker, the store’s manager, said.
But as the temperature drops, business is on the rise. “We went from being moderately busy to extremely busy,” he said.
Because of the freakishly warm weather earlier this month, hundreds of people cancelled their ski trips planned through Slope and Sail Tours. But now, the buses to the ski slopes are filling up fast.
Walker explained, “There's a lot of pent-up demand. People want to go skiing and realize there's a limited time frame to do it. We only go through mid-March, so when it turns cold, we get very, very busy.”

But ski shops aren't the only businesses that have seen a change in sales since the temperatures have dropped. Even with freezing weather outside, the first thing
Target customers see when they walk in the door are bathing suits. But needless to say, they're asking for something a bit warmer.
“We have people looking for winter items, such as thermal underwear, thermal socks, warm sweaters, boots. Pretty much all that stuff has gone clearance now, so we do have some left in the store; however it’s minimal to none, what we have left,” Heidi Twoguns, Target manager, explained.
And with winter wear pushed to the back corners of the store, spring attire gets the prime real estate.
But even the power of suggestion may not be strong enough to outweigh Mother Nature.
Twoguns added, “We probably won't have as many people look at bathing suits. They may look at it and say that's cute and that's it. But if it warmer outside, they may go the next step and try it on.”
But right now Mother Nature said we still have some time left, before we need to worry about looking good in those swim suits.
And temperatures won't be warming back up any time soon.
