CHARLOTTE -- Things are changing in the auto industry. Nearly 30 manufacturers have stopped including spare tires in some of their cars and it's leaving some drivers in a pinch.
According to AAA of the Carolinas, auto leaders like Ford, Cadillac, BMW and Chevrolet are replacing spare tires with tire repair kits, in some models.
Dusty Holcomb with AAA said many manufacturers are now replacing spare tires with tire sealant, similar to the product Fix-A-Flat.
But Holcomb said it's not the best option for stranded drivers.
"Unlike a spare tire, it can't be used to replace a blowout, a cut in the sidewalk or tread separation larger than one quarter of an inch," he said.
Even the product can't fix things like blowouts, some drivers said they don't mind the changes.
"I don't know how to change a spare tire by myself anyway so this was something I can do and I would actually prefer this," said driver Taylor Holt.
Tire repair kits should be replaced every five years.
