FAYETTEVILLE--Back to school means back to the store.

School supplies sales could top $84 billion dollars in 2012, as parents and students get ready for the new school year.

But shoppers are still cautious, according to the National Retail Federation, eight in 10 Americans said the economy will impact their spending plans.

North Carolina shoppers agree they're keeping their eyes peeled when it comes to prices.

"The economy has had a big impact I think on everybody, and yes, sales....we like sales," said mom and teacher Karen Bullard.

Most North Carolina public schools start the new school year on August 27.
