RALEIGH--The two sisters of Kathleen Peterson had strong words for Michael Peterson as they asked a judge to consider sending him to prison.

Durham novelist Michael Peterson was back in court Friday fighting to get off house arrest as he awaits a new trial in the death of his wife back in 2001. Attorney's for Peterson filed a motion asking a judge to remove the ankle bracelet that monitors his movement 24-7.

That motion was denied.

"Michael's reasons for fleeing are increasing not decreasing. If anything he should be more closely monitored. He is a desperate dangerous man," said the victim's sister Lori Campell.

Peterson is under house arrest as he awaits a new trial. Friday's issue was a motion by his attorneys to remove Peterson's ankle bracelet. During the hearing the court also heard testimony from the woman who monitors Peterson. She said he recently complained of discomfort with the ankle bracelet.

"He had a stress fracture in that ankle and wanted to have it changed to the other. He just wanted to know if it would be a problem if we had it switched and I told him no," said pretrial services program supervisor Christie Long.

But the judge didn't feel that warranted removing the bracelet. So Peterson will remain under house arrest but out of jail as he and Kathleen's sisters wait for what's next.
