GROVER, N.C.--An apparent murder-suicide in Cleveland County left two people dead Saturday night.

Deputies were called to North Main Street in Grover just after 10:00 p.m.

Sheriff Alan Norman said when a deputy arrived at the scene he saw 60-year-old Dennis Moss shoot his wife, 39-year-old Dawn Moss.

Norman says the deputy returned fire in an effort to protect the woman, but did not hit Mr. Moss.

The husband then led authorities on a short car chase. A second deputy attempted to stop Dennis Moss, who later turned the gun on himself.

Dennis Moss was pronounced dead at the scene, and his wife died at the hospital.
