CHARLOTTE — One of the premier local golf events will tee off later this week.

Charlotte Country Club will host the Carolinas Amateur Championship beginning on Thursday. It is the eighth time the prestigious club has hosted the event and there are a few people in Cary who will be taking a team approach.

Scott McClellan moved cross-country to Cary for opportunities such as this one.

“I'm just looking for an opportunity to play a little bit more golf. I am from Seattle originally,” said McClellan.

It is a chance to play in top-notch tournaments like the Carolina's Amateur Championship in Charlotte, an event McClellan won six years ago.

“I think I have a level of expectation inside of myself that is kind of hard to live up to because of my pasts wins and such. Being an event player I feel like I have to kind of prove myself and I am supposed to be in the field,” said McClellan.

A pair of other Triangle players, Eric Brady and Zach Edmondson, also have their sights set on a coronation in the Queen City.

“I have heard great things about it so I am pretty excited,” said Brady.

Similar to McClellan, the two ECU Pirates call Cary home. After an appearance in the NCAA tournament, they are looking forward to the latest stop on their busy summer tour.
