WINSTON-SALEM--Now the public has its chance to support the arts and walk away with a piece of RJR history.
The lines formed early outside the Milton Rhodes Center for the arts. There are thousands of items on sale through out the weekend and organizers say it is a good thing because all of the proceeds go back to the Winston-Salem Arts Council.
Joe Kirby drove from Virginia hoping to find something unique.
“So I got up and left the house at 6 a.m., drove 2.5 hours down. I'm hoping I'll find something of interest here,” said shopper Joe Kirby.
All of the items in the sale came from RJ Reynolds.
“And they said they have collected all of these pieces of artwork and other stuff from all their offices and executive suites and warehouses and factories,” said Winston-Salem Arts Council CEO Richard Emmett.
Arts Council officials hope to raise over $500,000 for the arts in their community from the donation. They said they are close to reaching that goal. Emmett said there are items that cost anywhere from $5 to $5,000.
“I'm one of those people who have the collecting disease and I go to great lengths to satisfy those desires,” said Kirby.
A $5 donation to the Arts Council will get you into the sale but that admission is good the entire weekend. The sale runs through Sunday.
