WINSTON-SALEM — Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines is not tossing aside a possible run for governor.
On Thursday, Joines said he has had a number of people reach out to him about launching a campaign. He also said, whoever becomes governor, will need to focus on job creation and strengthening the state's manufacturing sector.
“All of our cities, the metro areas are making great progress. But the thing that concerns me about North Carolina are the small cities and small towns that maybe don't have the ability to do a research park or some high-tech innovation team. So we have to make sure to keep those towns healthy as well,” said Joines.
Joines has been mayor for nearly 12 years. He said he will announce his decision in the near future.
