WINSTON-SALEM – Officials at the UNC School of the Arts say less money from the state is causing them to cut staff.
The school announced Thursday that it is laying off seven staff members and 12 vacant positions left open through retirement won't be renewed.
Chancellor John Mauceri says the layoffs were unavoidable because salaries make up 75 percent of the school's budget.
The film school was spared -- primarily through a tuition increase and switching from a trimester to semester calendar.
