GREENSBORO—From budgeting and management to social media and ethics, city leaders from all over the state are joining together with a common goal.
The League of Municipalities Conference began on Saturday and will continue at the Benton Convention Center in downtown Winston-Salem through Tuesday afternoon. Organizers chose Winston-Salem because it is a centralized location easily accessible to all regions of the state.
Franklinton Mayor Elic Senter said he is excited to attend the conference in hopes of gaining new ideas. Senter said that he likes to see and hear what other communities are doing around a number of different issues, such as engaging youth, public safety and public utilities.
"This is professional development for elected officials and for me it's crucial," said Senter.
The League of Municipalities has been in existence for over 100 years and during that time, they've grown and changed to suit the times.
"There are all sorts of things from energy efficiency to making government work better and complying with all the laws like the open means law and the public records laws," said Executive Director Ellis Hankins.
Information sessions and ideas that will ultimately help tax payers and the elected officials who serve them.
