ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- The latest storm to smack the Northeast is blamed for at least one death.

Police in Wesport, Conn., say one person was killed and three injured when a tree fell on a car last night.

And police in the New York City suburb of Teaneck are investigating whether two people found dead last night were killed by a tree that took down power lines as it fell. The police chief tells The Record of Bergen County that the two were apparently walking on the sidewalk.

Meanwhile, utility crews are pushing downed trees and windblown debris to restore power to nearly half a million homes and businesses.

Parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut were battered yesterday with heavy rain and winds gusting up to 70 miles an hour.
