CHARLOTTE -- Tuesday night, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board passed a plan to give employees cost of living raises as well as hire additional teachers.

But the plan comes with contingencies. The legislature approved the state budget but the governor has yet to sign it and has until Sunday to veto or let it pass.

A unanimous vote to approve a 3 percent raise for all employees and to hire 62 new teachers to cut down ninth grade class sizes carried in Tuesday night's meeting.

The raises are also contingent on $18.5 million the county commission currently has in a restricted fund.
