FAYETTEVILLE -- A special celebration Thursday as military members and their supporters held a ceremony honoring Flag Day. The Army Ground Forces band played a musical tribute in Fayetteville.

Many people walked through the Field of Honor where hundreds of flags fly. Seeing Old Glory is a reminder for many of all that it represents.

"It means freedom, it means liberty and it means the United States of America, the country that we fought for and it reminds me of all of our comrades who have laid down their lives for our country and the flags represent their presence," said retired soldier Richard Kim.

Flag Day commemorates the official adoption of the stars and stripes. On June 14, 1777 the Continental Congress approved the design of a national flag.
