JACKSONVILLE – An international uproar was started when a video showing U.S. Marines urinating on dead Taliban fighters surfaced this week.

Military and government leaders have universally condemned the act, as have people who live around Camp Lejeune.

At a barber shop just off base in Jacksonville, former marine and barber Craig Griffin said the video tarnishes the image of the Marines.

"It upset me because I know the Marine Corps got higher standards than what they was displaying,” said Griffin, β€œand I know it's totally out of the ordinary. To me, those few people have let the Marine Corps down and really gave us a black eye."

The marines shown in the video are from 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines which is based at Camp Lejeune.

Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has already ordered an full investigation in to the video saying, "I condemn it in the strongest possible terms. I have ordered the marine corps and to immediately and fully investigate the incident. This conduct is entirely inappropriate for members of the United States military and does not reflect the standards or values our armed forces are sworn to uphold.”

At a press conference in Washington, D.C. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton echoed Panetta's comments.

"It is absolutely inconsistent with American values, with the standards of behavior that we expect from our military personnel and the vast, vast majority of our military personnel particularly our Marines hold themselves to."

Some of the marines in the video have been identified but their names have not been released because of a pending investigation by the NCIS.
