FAYETTEVILLE — Fayetteville State University is celebrating the opening of its new nursing education and research center.
On Thursday the school held a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The 37,000 sq. ft. building has eight classrooms, two computer labs, three seminar rooms and several more amenities. The school had to try multiple times to launch the program and it was suspended last year because too many students failed the National Council Licensure Examination.
Nursing department officials said this is a great day for the University.
"It's exciting! We have a beautiful state-of-the-art building, we plan to move sometime next week or the week after. It's just a perfect foundation to really rebuild our program," said Afua Arhin, chair of Nursing Department.
Trustees have voted to apply for reinstatement of the four year nursing program. In addition to nursing, the new building will also house the school's Department of Psychology.
