HIGH POINT, N.C. – For a third year, dozens of people in need are getting a free trip to the dentist. Implant & General Dentistry held its annual Dentistry from the Heart program Friday.
The office in High Point, welcomed around 70 patients for routine cleaning, and fillings or extractions, if necessary.
Dr. Bertrand Bonnick said the program is something near to his heart, who has been involved in mission dentistry for decades, but said the work starts here.
"It just appeals to me from a christian point of view that charity begins at home," said Bonnick.
He said the program serves those who are uninsured or living below the poverty line, and for some, it's life changing.
Dr. Bonnick explained, "I just finished seeing one guy who's been to all three of them and first time I saw him all he had were teeth rotted to the bone, now he has an upper denture,” said Dr. Bonnick.
Joel Grizzle said he has come to the office during the free service before. He said Dr. Bonnick made him feel at ease, "he alleviated my fear in dentistry."
Grizzle was given a good report, Friday and he said he plans to pay the service forward, with his heritage in mind, "Jamaicans are a giving set of people, and if we get, we give back."
