ASHEBORO, N.C. – A police operation nearly five months in the making got underway Wednesday morning. The Randolph County Sheriff's Office is working beside every police department in the county to conduct its drug raid operation called "Mutual Aid”.

The campaign aims to catch 53 suspected drug dealers, that are facing nearly 190 charges.

"We're picking up street-level dealers and some mid-level dealers throughout the county," said Randolph County Sheriff Maynard Reid. "Randolph, Alamance, Guilford, we're known as the hub for the east coast for distribution of drugs."

Officials said the operation has goals to make a dent in the number of area dealers, along with the crimes many of their customers commit.

"Drug dealers sell to drug addicts and drug addicts break into houses, to supply their habits," said Reid.

He said the agencies are hoping to catch a majority of their suspects Wednesday, but the mission won't end.

"We'll keep looking for them until we get them all,” said Reid. “There's no doubt."
