Funeral for mother found dead in Raleigh apartment held in Elizabethtown

Family and Friends of a women found dead in her Raleigh apartment last week bid their final farewell Sunday in Elizabethtown. Melissa Dawn Huggins-Jones was found by her eight year old daughter Tuesday on Allister Drive in the North Hills area. Police are calling her death a homicide. Her funeral service was held at Elizabethtown Baptist Church.

Study: White sugar sales up since 2009 while Splenda, Sweet'N Low sales decrease

A report from the market research firm IRI says sales of white, granulated sugar are up 15 percent since 2009. Last year, Americans spent nearly $1.7 billion. The increase in white sugar sales comes as Americans shy away from artificial sweeteners. Sales of Splenda are down 40 percent since 2009, the study said, and Sweet'N Low purchases are off 16 percent.

Two people rescued after boat was taking on water in Cape Fear River

Two people are back on dry land after being rescued from the Cape Fear River in Harnett County. Rescue crews were called out around 10 p.m. Monday because a boat was taking on water near the North Carolina Wildlife Ramp between Erwin and Lillington. The two people weren't injured.
