WILMINGTON — New numbers show positive signs for state ports in Wilmington and Morehead City.

The Star News reports an 11 percent increase in the number of containers taken in at the two ports and an 8 percent increase in bulk cargo. The Wilmington port had an especially good year with more than 1.5 million tons of cargo received, which is a 16 percent increase.

Officials say the biggest jump was in agricultural imports such as animal feed and grain.
