Proposed funding cuts for Wave Transit could mean two fewer bus routes available for riders. Wave Transit recently found out the county is planning on giving them $140,000 for the next fiscal year. That is $110,000 less than the year before, and even more funding could fall through as a result.

The Southwest Onslow High School community is mourning the loss of one of their own after a student downed on Thursday. School leaders say the student was swimming with friends around 7:30 p.m. at North Topsail Beach when he went under.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says there could be an above average hurricane season this year. NOAA's predictions, released Thursday, call for up to 20 named storms with six to 11 hurricanes. The organization expects at least three to be major.

Garrett Weaver, a 23-year-old Camp Lejeune Marine, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter Thursday and will spend at least 16 months in prison. Investigators say 27-year-old Myrna Gabriel-Parks was killed in 2011 after Weaver ran a red light at Bell Fork Road and Hargett Street.

The Lenoir County Sheriff's office says Kristofer Tyson is facing several charges and is in jail on a $35,000 secured bond. Police went to his home on Wednesday to investigate metal thefts but once they got there, their investigation evolved as they found poppy plants.

A Cape Fear Community College student and veteran is honored with tools. U.S. Air Force veteran Kevin Young received $2,500 worth of automotive tools on Thursday. He is the college's first recipient of the "Hire Our Heroes" grant program from 3M. It aims to help place veterans in the auto repair industry.

A change of command ceremony, aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Wednesday, brought new leadership to the Second Marine Aircraft Wing. Hundreds came out to witness the transferring of colors from Major General Glenn Walters to Brigadier General Robert Hedelund. Walters has been appointed to a position at the Marine Corps national headquarters.

More than a year after her mysterious disappearance, the Army has declared Fort Bragg soldier Spc. Kelli Bordeaux dead. Bordeaux was last seen on April 14, 2012 leaving the Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville. The Army changed her status to deceased this week and notified her mother and husband.

The Surgeon General of the U.S. Navy visited Camp Lejeune to talk about the state of Navy Medicine. The surgeon general got a tour of the new multi-million dollar outpatient wing and emergency room, both of which are set to open at Camp Lejeune in just three to four weeks.
