A spike in homes sales in Brunswick County has realtors optimistic about a housing market rebound. St. James Plantation saw a 96 percent increase in sales from the first quarter of 2011.

Several forced annexation opponents boarded a bus in Wilmington Thursday morning to take their concerns to the state capital. The Senate approved a proposal that would change last year's overhaul of state law on this issue.

Residents may be soon able to vote on a smoking ban at Wrightsville Beach. The New Hanover County Board of Elections says enough people signed a petition calling for the ban which would make Wrightsville the first smoke-free beach in North Carolina.

A hurricane victim we've been following since last year is finally receiving help from across the country. More than 1,600 volunteers will be helping Pamlico County resident Geneva Gibbs said losing her home has taken an emotional and physical toll. After Irene swept the coast, her home was completely destroyed and she didn't have insurance.

Two initiatives to help drivers be more environmentally friendly got the green light this week. On Tuesday Progress Energy installed two chargers for electric cars in the parking deck on Market Street. Two chargers were also installed last week at Mayfaire Town Center.

Swansboro's oldest home may actually be in Hubert. In 1968, Roy Cannon bought a home that sat at the top of the hill in Swansboro where the First Citizens Bank is now. He knew the house was old and began to trace the lineage of it.

A coastal ministry is helping create a safe environment for people fleeing war-torn countries. Interfaith Refugee Ministry has played a huge part in helping residents from Burma, Cuba, and Columbia resettle in Wilmington for the past two years. The agency held a cornhole tournament on Sunday to help raise funds for their program.
