BELMONT—Three Gaston County high school stadiums that were flagged for structural problems last school year are cleared for kick-off.
District officials say home football games for South Point, Cherryville, and East Gastion High Schools will go on as normal this season. Those stadiums were condemned for a number of issues. Officials say building and repairs to those stadiums will be ongoing for the first couple weeks of the football season.
South Point High School Athletic Director Scott Lee said he will not let the construction distract his team.
“It does look like chaos right now, but you should have seen it a couple weeks ago,” said Lee. “It really looks good in there right now and they'll have it ready to roll next Friday night.”
A Gaston County Schools spokesperson said it cost more than $4 million to build and repair the three stadiums.
