Charlotte Motor Speedway owner Bruton Smith says a report about a possible move of one of the track's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races is false. Smith said Tuesday that no final decision has been made, but with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, the thought of the race leaving the speedway made many nervous.

Charlotte Bobcats chairman Michael Jordan announced that the team will change its name and become the Hornets once again. The team will officially become the Charlotte Hornets for the 2014-2015 season.

The state medical examiner's office has revised the death toll from a tornado in an Oklahoma City suburb to 24 people, including nine children. Spokeswoman Amy Elliott said Tuesday morning that she believes some victims were counted twice in the early chaos of the storm.

North Carolina senators are getting their first attempt to change a proposed state government budget plan for the next two years. The Senate Appropriations Committee planned to meet Tuesday morning to discuss and vote on the proposal that spends roughly 2 percent more than this year, or nearly $21 billion.

Mecklenburg County is celebrating its sestercentennial. It was 250 years ago the county declared its independence from Great Britain, a year before the rest of the country. This day also marks the 50th anniversary of a Civil Rights march demanding desegregation. Dozens of people marched through Uptown Charlotte Monday, just like civil rights activists did on May 10, 1963.

This week, Charlotte area planners are scheduled to give final approval to widen Interstate 77 with HOT lanes between the Queen City and Mooresville. High Occupancy Toll lanes allow drivers to pay to use the lanes to avoid congestion, and the amount depends on traffic. Carpools of three or more people can use the lanes for free.

A high school class helped to create a bilingual crime-fighting tool. Law enforcement officers are coming into contact with more Spanish-only speakers which can make their job much more difficult. It all started in 2003 when a teacher asked a Cherryville police officer who could not understand spanish what would happen if he stopped someone during a traffic violation.

The Charlotte Bobcats will hold a news conference Tuesday evening, where the team is expected to announce it is bringing the Hornets nickname back to the city. Former point guard Muggsy Bogues, arguably the most recognizable person to ever put on a Hornets jersey, said bringing the nickname back to Charlotte is a good move.

Students and staff at South Mecklenburg High School will be tested for tuberculosis this week. A student tested positive for the bacteria although CMS has not said when the discovery was made or what grade the student is in. Health officials say the testing is a precaution.

Confirmation hearings will begin this week in Washington for Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx, who was nominated by President Barack Obama to replace Ray LaHood as Secretary of Transportation. A hearing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday before the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.
