WILMINGTON—Books are on the walls as well as the shelves in the UNCW library as they celebrate the 30th anniversary of Banned Book week.
Covers of banned or challenged books are highlighted in the display along with a description of why each selection was censored at some point in the last three decades. Staff members say they wanted to make the display bigger and better than ever to celebrate the milestone anniversary.
"We put chicken wire all around the ban to add the idea or the illusion of the books being liberated which is the theme of Banned Book Week this year. It's 30 years of liberating literature," said facilities and events coordinator Christopher Rhodes.
The exhibit will remain in the library until November. For more information about other activities coinciding with the display visit the UNCW library website.
