FAYETTEVILLE--Police are investigating an assault that happened Saturday at around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Morganton Road and Herndon Street.
A woman was walking in that residential area when police said an unknown suspect grabbed her from behind.
Although the woman got away, police believe her attacker may have had a sexual motive.
"She was able to survive, and that's important. Be aware. When you see a person, start at their feet, and work your way up. Make note of shoes, pants, shirt, face. That will give you a good start in helping remember the suspect, but also give you a good approximation of height, which is very valuable," said Gavin MacRoberts, with the Fayetteville Police Department.
The suspect is described as a black male with dark complexion, between 5 foot 10 inches and 6 feet tall with a muscular build. The suspect was wearing a gray tank top with dark gray or black nylon shorts.
Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (910) 483-TIPS.
