LAKE NORMAN, N.C. – A Davidson County man is sentenced to life in prison for his girlfriend's murder in 2010.

Zachary Bowman told police his girlfriend, Tosha Powers, hung herself with an electrical cord.

Investigators said the marks on her neck didn't match the electrical cord and that Bowman had strangled her with a necklace.

Prosecutors said Powers was trying to leave Bowman because he threatened her and her kids, so he killed her.

Bowman was convicted and sentenced Friday, July 27.
