SELMA—As the country prepares to celebrate Independence Day, a Triangle teen is declaring his own independence on life, thanks to the love and support from the community.
When Charles Humpries, 17, of Selma was diagnosed with bone cancer two years ago, doctors were forced to amputate his leg. But instead of sitting on the sidelines, Willson's Mills Baptist Church began raising funds to buy the athlete a high-tech prosthetic leg.
