WHITEVILLE, N.C. -- The three traditional high schools in Columbus County are becoming STEM schools this fall.
The change, which will affect East, West and South Columbus High Schools, is due to the North Carolina New Schools Project. The NC New Schools Project was created to help students find career paths.
School officials say benefits will include an aligned curriculum with state, national, international and industrial standards, and increased funding for teachers.
STEM curriculum focuses on science, technology, engineering and math.
