SPRING LAKE, N.C. – Town leaders in Spring Lake will meet Monday to discuss Ban the Box, an initiative that would prevent the town from asking potential employees about criminal convictions on applications.

Supporters say the question would not come up until the interview stage of the hiring process, giving applicants a chance to explain their checkered pasts.

The policy is already in place in Cumberland and Durham counties.
