CHARLOTTE – A fire Goodman says the forest service could get as little as 16 hours notice, and there is a real possibility they may need to help out in Colorado, even as East Coast firefighters continue to battle the Croatan National Forest wildfire."The resources on that end of the nation have not exceeded their capabilities,” he said. “If this continues on another month, it's very likely we will be sending people there."As for the potential of a large wildfire in the Piedmont of North Carolina, Goodman says it's not as likely."Could we have a fire up to 1,000 acres? Sure, we have some large blocks of timber in this county, and in an extreme fire day, that's not unlikely," he said. But it would be unlikely to grow to the size of the fires out West or on the coast. The forest service says if its rangers are called upon, they usually work for two weeks before returning home.
