RALEIGH--A bipartisan effort has passed in the state house that would allow liquor stores to stay open on Labor Day weekend this year.

That's also around the time of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.

The state's government-run liquor stores are usually closed on Sundays and holidays. This would pose a problem for area restaurants and bars that may need to re-stock, due to bigger crowds from the convention.

The change would solely apply to Mecklenburg County, and only for Labor Day weekend of this year.

The bill will now be voted on in the senate.
