RALEIGH—Hundreds of people stormed the streets in Raleigh to voice their opinion about recent legislation that some feel do not support women's rights.

They joined together to speak out on a number of issues during Saturday's Unite Against the War on Women rally.

"The vast majority of women who are North Carolinians have to work outside of the home yet they don't begin to receive anywhere near a man's salary," said Linda Eldridge.

Armed with signs, shirts and some a combination of both, a crowd of mostly women rallied in the capital. Equal pay and equal rights were among the issues that were discussed.

Another major topic was the upcoming vote in May on the Marriage Amendment.

"I personally believe that marriage is between one man and one woman but I will not discriminate against my fellow human beings regardless of their sexual orientation. I will not," said Eldridge.

The rally was billed as a chance to unite against the war on women. From health care to the battle over a woman's right to choose, those in attendance say they hope the rally will encourage people to fight back.

"All these attacks have happened on many different levels in ways that affect women and the best thing that we can do in order to combat those is to get out the vote both in the May 8 primary as well as in November," said NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina Deputy Director Hillary Waugh Bruce.

District 18 Rep. Susi Hamilton and Lt. Gov. candidate Linda Coleman served as speakers during the event.
