OAK RIDGE—The Oak Ridge Fire Department in Guilford County has a brand new rescue pumper truck.
Sunday, firefighters honored an old fire department tradition of pushing the new fire truck in the station. Chief Steve Simmons said it took the department a year and a half to get the truck.
"This means everything to us - we are here because of and for the community. although the truck says Oak Ridge on the side, this is their truck. These people paid for it. And we want them to be a part of enjoying the new truck with us."
The new pumper truck costs around $500,000 and will replace an older fire truck that is 27-years-old. Firefighters say it will better help them do their jobs.
